COMBINE FIRE WITH FIELD INVOLVED

Monday, October 17, 2011  At 15:09 hours Company 15 along with Turbot Township (CO17) was dispatched to Rt. 254 at the Montour County line fire a reported combine fire. Chief 1501 (Gaugler) arrived to find a well involved combine next to some barns. The chief was than notified by the operator that a large portion of the field was also involved due to him driving across the field not knowing that his machine was on fire. Engine 15-1 arrived and went to work and started to get a handle on the combine fire until the poly diesel fuel tank burnt through. Due to the additional fire with the combine and the field fire growing larger due to windy conditions, command requested additional tankers and brush trucks to the scene. Units from Warrior Run (CO9), Pottsgrove (CO12), Lewisburg (CO2), and Washingtonville (Montour CO 80) assisted on the scene. Company 15 units remained on the scene for about two hours.

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE COLE FAMILY AND THE WBOF

Tuesday, October 11, 2011  The members of the The 15 House woud like to send their thoughts and prayers out to the members of the Williamsport Bureau of Fire  and the family Platoon Chief Jeffery A. Cole.

It is with heavy hearts that Williamsport Firefighters, IAFF Local 736, announce the Line of Duty Death of Platoon Chief Jeffery A. Cole. Chief Cole passed away at home October 7, 2011 at 23:30 hours after a brief but courageous battle with job-related cancer. Chief Cole was born January 7, 1959 and was 52 years old.

Chief Cole was appointed to the Williamsport Bureau of Fire on September 8, 1980, and had 31 years of service. During his tenure with the Bureau, he served as a Firefighter, Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Lieutenant for 5 years and Platoon Chief for 12 years.

Chief Cole was a very active member of the Williamsport Firefighters, IAFF Local 736. He was a past President of the Local as well as a trustee.

He was a Life Member of the Independent Fire Company #1, South Williamsport, PA. While an active member, he held the positions of Financial Secretary and Lieutenant.

He was also an active firefighter and EMT at William Cameron Engine Company in Lewisburg, PA for the past several years.

Chief Cole was an avid instructor, holding positions as a PA State Fire Academy Adjunct Instructor, and a Fire Instructor with Bucks County Community College, Harrisburg Area Community College, Reading Area Community College, and a member of the Keystone Fire Instructors.

   


 

FIRE POLICE CAPTAIN ASSISTS HERSHEY FD WITH CRASH

Thursday, October 6, 2011  On the morning of Oct. 6th Fire Police Capt. 1561 (Mabus) was driving on Governor Road at Hershey Park Drive on his way to a flea market when he came around a turn and found a traffic accident that had just occurred in front of him. Once the dust settled he found that a SUV had crossed the center line and struck a small dump truck. The dump truck than stuck the Deputy Chief from the Hershey Fire Department. The Chief immediately radioed in the crash and advised that he was involved and that he had a person confined in one of the vehicles. Captain 1561 checked on all the occupants and found that they were not seriously injured. He then shut traffic down and assisted the local PD with traffic control for about an hour. Once the FD arrived they popped the door on the SUV and the driver was removed. All occupants involved had no injuries. This can also be seen at www.hersheyfire.org 

     



 

TURBOT TOWNSHIP SMASH UP

Monday, September 26, 2011  At 16:49 Hrs. Company 15 along with Turbot Twp. (CO17) was dispatched to Rt. 254 in the area of Taylor's Garage for an auto accident with unknown injuries. The Chief staff arrived to find two cars with moderate damage with everyone out of their vehicles and no injuries. Rescue 15-1 arrived and handled vehicle hazards while EMS took care of refusals. Apparently the red car was pulling out from the parking area and got struck by an east bound vehicle which than traveled into a parked car at the garage. Crews were available in about 30 minutes.

     



 

CAR INTO VACUUM CLEANER

Tuesday, September 20, 2011  At 16:28 Hrs. Company 15 was dispatched to the Jet Stop Car Wash on South Front St. in the borough for a car into the vacuum. Chief 1503 arrived and confirmed one car into the sweeper with minor injuries. Rescue 15-1 arrived and assisted EMS with a semi combative patient. Apparently the driver was not to be driving and had some type of medical emergency which lead to the crash. The Rescue remained on the scene until the tow truck arrived. Units were available at 17:08 Hrs.

     



 

TRACTOR TRAILER ROLLOVER

Tuesday, September 13, 2011  At 16:27 Hrs. The 15 House was dispatched to Rt. 147 and Industrial Park Road for a tractor trailer overturned with unknown injuries. Chief 1503 and Capt. 1506 arrived to find the truck on its side with the driver out and uninjured. Rescue 15-1 arrived and took care of any hazards. The driver was hauling large rolls of paper that shifted when he made the turn onto Rt. 147 North. Units on the scene: Rescue and Engine 15-1, Milton Fire Police, and PSP. Crews remained on the scene for 30 minutes.

     



 

TROPICAL STORM LEE FLOODING

Wednesday, September 7, 2011  The week of September 5th was off to a bad start with a tropical a storm heading for central PA. Heavy rain started falling early in the week with 6 to 10 inches predicted for are area. By Tuesday the 7th it was still raining and the streams were starting to rise rapidly with multiple water rescues for Boat 15-1. Wednesday the 8th it was still raining heavily and the river was on the rise. Wednesday night and Thursday The 15 house was still busy preforming water rescues and other water related calls. Thursday the 9th the river crested a little over 26Ft and caused significant flooding in Milton and the surrounding areas. Over a period of two days The 15 House ran 17 flood related calls. Rainfall totals following the storm were in the 12"+ range. Friday the 9th the waters had receded and the cleanup began. Thanks to everyone who was around and helped during this long and tiring week.

     



 

MOTORCYCLE FIRE

Sunday, September 4, 2011  At 12:29 Hrs. Company 15 was dispatched to Milton Village in the borough for a reported motorcycle on fire. Fire Police Captain Mabus arrived to find the bulk of the fire was out and advised the incoming Engine. Engine 15-1 arrived and pulled 50' of the trash line to extinguish the smoldering bike. Apparently the bike was being taken on a test drive when it caught fire. The rider was treated for minor burns and released. Units were available in about 30 minutes.

     



 

119th ANNUAL CENTRAL DISTRICT CONVENTION

Thursday, August 18, 2011  Thursday the 18th kicked off the annual Central District Volunteer Fireman’s Association Convention held this year in Kane, PA. Each year firefighters from all over the central part of the state get together for this convention. Members from The 15 House headed out Thursday to meet up with the guys from Carlisle to set up camp. Friday and Saturday had activities such as award ceremonies, battle of the barrel, pumping contest, and a parade. Everyone at The 15 House would like to congratulate one of its own, Karinda Trapane for receiving a scholarship award towards her education. See everyone next year in Bellwood.

OVERTURNED UTILITY TRAILER

Wednesday, August 17, 2011  At 22:48 Hrs. The 15 House was dispatched along with Company 17 for a reported MVA with unknown injuries and a utility trailer overturned in the area of Grange Hall Rd and State Route 254in Turbot Township. Chief 1502 (Stump) arrived to find one pickup truck on the side of the road with its utility trailer on its side blocking the West Bound lanes. Chief 1502 confirmed no injuries and placed all EMS units in service. Rescue 15-1 and Engine 17-1 arrived on the scene and assisted with getting the trailer back on its wheels and with traffic control until the PSP Milton arrived. Units remained on the scene for 30 minutes. Units on the scene: Chiefs 1502, 1503, Rescue 15-1, Engine 17-1, Milton Fire Police, Turbot Twp. Fire Police and PSP Milton.
