CAR LAUNCHES OFF INTERSTATE

Thursday, August 24, 2017 At 22:58 hours the Milton Fire Department was dispatched along with Company 17, Ambulances 2-2, 8-3, and MICU 91 to Interstate 80 in the area of mile marker 215 east bound for a single vehicle MVA. Chief 1501 arrived to find a single passenger car that had launched off the highway above, landed on SR 254, hit a concrete barrier head on, and then caught fire. Two motorists had assisted the driver getting out of the car. 1501 used a water can to knock down the fire until Engine 15-2 arrived and made sure any remaining fire was extinguished. Crews from Engine 15-2 and 17-2 then controlled any remaining vehicle hazards. Units on scene: Chiefs 1501 Stump, 1502 Lupo, 1503 Derr, 1701, Engines 15-2, 17-2, Rescue 15-1, Ambulances 2-2, 8-3, MICU 91, 1561, 1562, and PSP. Photos by Jay Mabus.
